Toast to Queen and Canada

  • Business:
  • Dec 14th is confirmed as the date for the Christmas brunch at Rob Hawton’s house. It will also be our book exchange.
  • We need to send $500 to Susie’s sewing project. Carol and Juris will liaise and organise the money order.
  • Maddy reported on Christmas hamper program for Beaver Valley. they will start assembling them on Dec 16th for gifts and Dec 20th for hampers to be given out on 21st.
  • There is a book club fundraiser in the the Hospital lobby on Nov 26/27. Used books can be dropped off with Carol.
  • Carol introduced Geoff Harrison of the Trail Youth Action Network, (YAN). He runs a drop in after school program three days a week from about 3. to 8pm. The kids are from 13 to 18 but most in the 13 to 15 group. They are asking us to run a cooking program for them. This could be either a regular weekly occurrence or less frequently for special occasions. They currently have a meal on Thursdays so we could take over that night or we do another night. We could use our express grant to purchase equipment for them and go in and teach them cooking. They have basics but e could purchase a blender or other equipment for them. Foodsafe might be helpful and if we did this on a regular basis we would need criminal record checks as part of the volunteer screening. there is limited space in the kitchen so it would probably be small groups or working as one large group. We will plan a visit to see what there is in the kitchen and see what the space is like.
  • Carol thanked Geoff for his presentation and we will discuss it further.
  • Next week Murray McConnachie will talk about a water project the Rossland club is doing.

Happy and sad bucks collected. Meeting adjourned at 8am
