Thought of the day

Minutes 28 February 2020

Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.
Jimi Hendrix

Go to heaven for the climate, and hell for the company.
Mark Twain

The meeting was held at the Presbyterian Church with President Graham presiding, 4 members present.

Toast to Queen and Canada

  • Business:
  • Juris and Maddy returned from attending PETS in Seattle. Juris found the training interesting and helpful with four members of the top brass from RI giving keynotes. He was hoping for more project orientated speeches. Hardly any presence of Rotaractors. The message was about more fellowship in clubs, being intentionally inclusive, and more variety in types of clubs and meetings.
  • Maddy felt Holger Knack, (RI President Elect), John Hewko, (RI General Secretary) Sue Wafer, (International director elect) and Johrita Salari, (RI Vice President elect) were all very approachable, attending district sessions and having Q&A sessions with District leadership.
  • Maddy presented the club with a lectern banner from Holger Knack.
  • Graham reported on the Trail meeting he attended. The speaker Alanna Tynan from the Slocan Valley runs a program for young entrepreneurs.
  • Trail Rotary will apply for a grant to help with the cooking program.
  • The Cooking program is going well. Maddy did a session at the Youth Centre on Thursday 27th with Theresa Buchner helping. They made lentil soup and coleslaw and fed 8 youth and 4 were actively engaged in shopping and making the food.
  • Juris talked to the district secretary about having to have 2 separate accounts. It is not necessary. We will discuss this at a later meeting.
  • Time for a social. We will have a social at Maddy and Juris place on Saturday March 21st. Maddy will provide roast lamb. More details to follow
  • We need to start getting businesses for the GTRAC coming up April 13th to 22nd.
  • March 6th at the Bridgeview.
  • April 18th is the Spring assembly in Spokane Valley.
  • May 14 to 17 is the District conference in Kennewick. Maddy is registered and is looking at booking some shared accommodation.
  • March 4th the Trail club has Koos and Mayumi van der Pol to talk about the proposed Indus peace park. All invited.

  • Happy and sad bucks collected. Meeting adjourned at 8am
