  • District conference is April 17th 9am to 1pm on zoom.
  • Bingo- Have $1200 in the account. We need to give it to registered societies. It may be a problem donating to the Fruitvale community garden. juris will check where we can give money. we may be able to give to Camp Koolaree.
  • Our best wishes to club member Jay Ross who has been sick.

  • Juris introduced Bill and Dave from Castlegar Rotary to talk about their water project in peru.
  • They are applying for a global grant before May 31st (so that they get full matching) and need partnering clubs.
  • The proposed project is in Peru in partnership with Wings of Hope. The village of Venturosa Baja in the Supe district of Peru is on the coast. It is very dry and dusty and rarely rains there. When it does it is torrential and can cause flooding. the government ignores their problems as they are too small. Much of their ground water is contaminated from mining and contains parasites. Good water comes from springs. they dig trenches by hand for pipes to get it to the villages, long distances, often several km.
  • The covid death rate is high in Peru.
  • Wings of hope is an NGO that partners with communities to get water to them. they have installed 25 water projects since 2000. The villagers pay a fee and are invested in the project. they make decisions about it. Committees have to be 50% women. social workers live in communities and help educate the people about hygiene. their projects are sustainable. Each household gets a sink and faucet to provide outside water.
