The meeting was held on zoom with 4 members and guest District Governor, Lynn O’Connor, present

  • Business:
  • Bingo; they have enough people to help for tonight. Maddy picked up checks in Castlegar and delivered them to Bruce of the Trail club. Juris delivered a check to a winner and took a picture. We need to provide 6 people together with Trail for October 29th.
  • Discussion on the Beaver Valley Food bank. Is there something we could do an express grant for with them? Maddy will find out if what they need. Perhaps in conjunction with a food drive.
  • We need to discuss ideas for an express grant next week.
  • Program – DG Lynn O’Connor
  • Maddy introduced Lynn to talk about the priorities in District 5080 and from Rotary International. Membership – Each One Bring One. the message from Shekar Mehta. How do we implement it? Membership is about how we treat our guests. N American clubs are shrinking so how do we tackle that? Ask what members want to do.
  • Peace is an objective of Rotary. Peace studies are funded by the Rotary Foundation. To be a Rotary Peace fellow you have to study in another country, speak another language and have done humanitarian work. How does peace affect us?
  • A discussion on PETS and the types of speakers we would like to see. Not the top brass of Rotary necessarily but ordinary people who have stories of how they overcame obstacles.
  • Polio- there have only been 2 cases of wild polio this year so far which is pretty amazing. The situation in Afghanistan will likely not affect the number of cases as the Taliban has not prevented vaccinations.

  • Peace conference – Oct 16th on zoom. details to come soon.
  • Fall assembly Oct 23rd zoom only. It will focus on the Foundation.
  • Happy and sad bucks (not) collected. Meeting adjourned at 8.15am
