- Business
- We held an extra meeting on Monday 19th September with Betty and Dan Boateng in attendance and guest David Cooke. Betty and Dan talked about the work they are doing in Ghana to help provide basic healthcare to rural areas. We explained Rotary’s funding structure. We will discuss their proposal next week. they may need to tone down the evangelical side of it. they need to give us a plan with more specific details of funding needed.
- Saturday November 5th District fall training in Spokane valley 10 to 3pm. We need to have people trained if we want to apply for a grant.
- October 24th is World polio day. A yoga fundraiser suggested. What would that look like? Do a joint event with Trail. Making Beaver tails at the Trail farmers market on October 22. Pat will see if Trail club want to do it with us.
- Thanksgiving food drive – We will try to do it on October 1st if Liberty is able to do it.
- Possibility of Christmas projects helping in the community. see what we can do to increase our visibility. Beaver valley food hampers are looking for help assembling hampers and wrapping gifts. Also breakfast with Santa is happening and needs volunteers. Dates not yet available.
- Tree planting: Postponed until October 15th. More details to follow.
- We need to know how much money we have. Juris our treasurer will give us a financial update once he gets all the figures from Carol. we need to give away some bingo money soon.
- Members need foodsafe and serve it right if we do fundraisers with food like Beaver tails. Pat has started it. Monse has it.
- We have been asked to help with All Candidates forum for the elections coming up. October 4th from 6.30 onwards to help moderate discussion and questions at Fruitvale Memorial Hall.
- Program Sheila Issel – Beaver Valley Nursery School
- Sheila has been with BVNS for over 20 years. covid affected their numbers and scared some people off. Numbers dropping. Village of Fruitvale is putting a new childcare centre together with the new housing. BVNS will run this. This will affect their classes. Only 8 classes, used to have 10. Lots of kids but now there are more full-time working families. Less Trail families. 40 families currently. Also, they run after school care. $185 to come to preschool twice a week. Fundraiser a lot and have one coming up Oct 1st selling firewood. Pat volunteered to help. government about to announce new funding for daycare.
- Upcoming speakers -David Cooke on global warming on September 30th. Jo Campagn to talk about her farm date tba. Gus Lot to talk about history of the discovery of Uranus date tba possibly October 14th.
- Discussion on cold weather shelter. suggested that we get someone from the Trail community action team to come talk to us. Maddy will do this.
- 6th October Thursday evening in person at Pat’s to make beaver tails at 6pm and no meeting on October 7th.
- happy and sad bucks (not) collected. Meeting adjourned at 8.15am
