  • Program – Colville Rotary Tanzania project
  • Heidi Lum from Colville Rotary spoke to us. She started Advocates for Africa’s Children in 2006. Colville Club just applied for a District matching grant to partner with them to build a classroom in Tanzania. AAC operates in Eswatini and Tanzania. Supports orphans and vulnerable children with sustainable long-term projects. There are 2.76 million orphans in Tanzania due to aids, malaria, and TB. (Population of Tanzania is approx 57 million). AAC built a well first to supply the school with water and established a farm to provide food. They built a dining hall. Every year they add more classrooms. Had 64 kids in 2020 now 130. Very poor rural area. They have purchased vans to help transport kids. It is a Private school. 85% of kids need help with fees. To make it sustainable they need more paying students. Over 45 kids in each classroom. Starting a Rotary club too. Public schools are available but no transport for rural kids and no English taught which they need to get good jobs. It costs $10,000 to build each classroom. Invited us to a fundraiser on May 13th in Colville. Invited anyone to join them on their trip to Tanzania from Aug 1st. approx costs $4900 (USD). It is $35 a month to sponsor a child ($200 a year). School goes to grade 8. In the future, they want to build teacher’s accommodations and also dorms for kids who need to board. Currently no electricity at the site. The more resources, the more they can do.
