Thought of the day
Minutes 12 May 2023
Courage is knowing it might hurt, and doing it anyway. Stupidity is the same. And that is why life is hard.

- Program – Joan and her trip to Ghana.
- They spent time in Kumasi (2nd city) 250km north of Akra, then in the Eastern part near Akosombo dam a big hydroelectric project. They explored Cape Coast where the big slave ports were. Roads are quite bad (250km took 5 1/2 hrs to drive). In Kumasi they attended two sets of funeral rites. The number of functions for funerals is extensive. A remembrance service, then the seven-day anniversary of the death (6am to 6pm). Donations are collected to offset expenses with recognition of the amount. Four acceptable colors to wear for funerals; black, white, red, and brown. The home of the deceased is decorated in black and white with a large picture of them on the gate. Funerals are a big part of the culture and social life in Ghana.
- They did not see as much wildlife as in Tanzania. The literacy level is pretty good. It is common to have big high schools with 8-900 children boarding. The language of Ashantis is Twi. In Akra it is Ga.
