  • Joan introduced Louise. School Aid program started 2010. It is run by the Catholic Church as a Non-denominational program to provide school supplies to low income kids in Trail/Rossland/BV area. Items in kits – typical items they need – pencils, notebooks, crayons, pens folders etc. Backpacks for elementary kids, lysol wipes included since covid. Program funded by donations. Church contacts the schools to find families that may need supplies. There has been less need in last few years. List confidential so only one person sees names. 104 packages this year. 2110 packages given since start. Cost is about $75 per student. Initially donations from church. Now from corporations and grants (Teck, CBT, Kiwanis, Columbia Power, Kootenay Savings) as well as individuals. Mills Office Supplies assembles the packages and gives a discount. January a top up is given in the form of gift certificates for Mills. Have met their budget for this year. Not eligible for gaming funds. We will consider them for next year if we have sufficient club funds.
