  • Program seniors services
  • Joan explained about the office of the Seniors Advocate in BC, started in 2014. A senior is anyone over 65. Awareness of services is spotty. Four areas of focus: Healthcare, income, housing and transportation. Rural seniors worse off economically. If you sell your house in an urban area get more to live on. It is hard to find services and more expensive in rural areas. You are more likely to have to travel for services. There are less dedicated seniors facilities in rural areas. If it was not for community action in small communities many seniors would be worse off. Transportation is really important for seniors as many services not available in every community. Canada wide service called Hope Air is available for help with medical related travel. New service for dental services available for seniors. Taxes can be done by volunteers free of charge for seniors. It can be hard to know about all the services available. Pat will talk to Jayme Fowler the BV senior advocate about talking to us about what she does.
  • Is there a project we could do involving seniors?
  • Club social – date Saturday April 13th, location to be decided….
  • Next meeting March 15th. (Pat away next week.)
  • Happy and sad bucks (not) collected. The meeting adjourned at 7.45am
