  • His life changed when their son James died 17 years ago. He had time on his hands and began exploring philosophy. Free Will: at first he was sure we have it and then came to the conclusion that there is no free will. A lot of what we perceive is illusory. We have the ability to make choices which is not the same as free will. We seem to choose between competing “wants”. If we lose our belief in Free Will then morality changes. You can’t be moral without free will. If you could not have done otherwise how can you be moral? You have a different concept of morality. We do not choose our emotions. When we are aware of emotions we can change them. We dwell on our thoughts because we have easy access to them. We do not control our cells or brain chemistry. free will forces us to confront the certainty of things, the truth. Suggestion for homework- Keep an eye on your thoughts and see if you do things in the right order or are you confabulating (making up stories or interpretations).
  • Next meeting April 26th on zoom
  • May 3rd in person at Bridgeview at 8am.
