The meeting was held on Zoom at 7.15 am with 6 members present.

  • Business
  • Received Land Conservancy magazine, Juris to contact to see if we can do anything.
  • District Governor Lorne to visit us next year in January or more likely 7th February 8 am
  • In person social meeting on 2nd Nov, Madeleine will send out details
  • 7th December Breakfast with Santa. May need help with setting up on the 6th. Note is in an in-person meeting day too.
  • Some discussion on sponsoring a family. Madeleine will discuss with Theresa whether the BV food bank can be a conduit.
  • Reminder – YAN cooking is starting up again. Getting Ferraro to cater a christmas dinner for YAN was suggested. Madeleine to contact Geoff.
  • A thank you card for Marianne for a donation to the foodbank (Madeleine).
  • Volodia will give a talk on Ukraine on the 25th October, tomorrow.
  • Christmas social … tentatively 13 December at the Kootenay Kebab.

Ben Postmus, Diverse Family Roots Society

  • DFRS is based in the East and West Kootenays
  • The society (family stewards) facilitates connections with families in need with support workers. The facilitation works in both directions. Puts educational assistants in touch with families in need of respite care. EAs frequently work part time and may welcome the extra hours.
  • It is a relatively new society (since December)
  • Ben was with Teck for 39 years and has been involved with family support for 30 years.
  • Focuses on the family, individuals and support workers
  • Has a Dad’s Sunday, Supports up to 103 Dads.
  • They have one paid position which is the Executive Director (currently Ben).
  • Other models are not regional, and the provincially based models may not be familiar with the local geography never mind the needs and availability of resources.
  • Madeleine will put Ben in touch with the other Rotary Clubs in the area
