We are a young club, we just celebrated our tenth anniversary. We officially chartered in June of 2009 with twenty members, but today we are fairly small. We were guided through our formative process by PDG Elizabeth Cytra and Viktor Cytra, from the Trail and Beaver Valley Rotary Clubs respectively. Many thanks to the Cranbrook and Columbia Center clubs who were our sponsoring clubs.
Over the years we have supported at various times, local and international organizations.
Locally:
- Sanctuary, they are open to all children ages 8-12. Sanctuary is especially for those who’s parents aren’t able to be home right after school.
- Trail Hospice, supports the quality of living for those in the process of dying, and a healthy transition through grief for the bereaved.
- Salvation Army/Kate’s Kitchen, is a restaurant style facility that caters mostly to those in the community with low incomes; but, they also have seniors, people on welfare, and homeless youth.

Internationally:
- Rotaplast, helps children and families worldwide by eliminating the burden of cleft lip and/or palate, burn scarring, and other deformities. They work with local professionals, Rotarians, and other organizations, Rotaplast sends multidisciplinary medical teams to provide free reconstructive surgery, ancillary treatment, and training for the comprehensive care of these children.
- ShelterBox, is dedicated to helping ensure no family is left without shelter after natural disaster or conflict – by going where others can’t or won’t. ShelterBox provides emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their homes by disaster, they’re transforming despair into hope.
- Tegucigalpa Market Children, help children to attend school, which is free in Honduras, however, but they do need a uniform, shoes, books and school supplies. The aim is to get them out of poverty so that they don’t have to work the market selling goods or dig through the landfill looking for reusable material and goods. Children who have been previously sponsored have since attended university.
- Suzie’s Sewing Project (Threads of Hope), nine-month vocational training and life skills mentoring for vulnerable women in Kenya. The students were taught to sew and produced items such as sanitary pad kits which were distributed girls in grades 6 to 8, reusable diapers and school uniforms.

Our primary service project is:
- Waneta Adopt a Highway Program, three times a year we have been doing road clean up between the Walmart and the RCMP detachment on Highway 3B. Volunteers are always welcome, you can get hold of us through our contact page. You can see when the next one is on our schedule page.
Fundraisers:
- Duathlon, we have had two duathlons, but we are having a bit of a hiatus on this fund raiser. Finding a race date that does not clash with other events has been tricky.
- Greater Trail Rotary Auction: we have participated together with the Trail and Rossland clubs in this auction. The profits from the auction went to local and international causes. Note the link will only work when there is an active auction in progress.
- Champion Lakes Golf Tournament, these charity fund raisers were held for Sanctuary and the Trail Hospice. These tournaments were kindly hosted by Jay and Carolyn with PharmaChoice in Trail.
- Motorcycle show, we have held a couple of motorcycle shows to raise money for Rotaplast and local projects. The first one happened during a hundred-year rainstorm. This event was spearheaded by Shane McIntyre our resident motorcyclist who moved to the Island and has sadly passed away. Shane is fondly remembered.

Friendship Exchange:
We hosted visitors in the early years, the Brazilians in the March 2009, we were still a provisional club and the Australians in June of 2011.
We have had two members visit Australia and Ecuador on friendship exchanges.

Being a small club, this allows for spirited debates, we are not shy about broaching hot topics and we all remain friends.
