Thought of the day
Minutes 14 July 2023
The trouble with telling a good story is that it invariably reminds the other fellow of a dull one.
Sid Caesar
Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers.

- Business
- Dues are due. $120 for the next 6 months. Maybe it is time for a review. Could the treasurer give us a report to see what it is really costing us? We have to pay RI and district dues. We have not received the invoices yet.
- We have yet to organize a photo op for the cheque for $2000 for the Memory Garden project. Juris will do it Monday afternoon.
- No cooking this week. We assume the AC is still out. Maddy and Theresa will make a salad at a future date. Pat will make soup with them in the fall.
- More of us need to have Foodsafe so that we do not have to rely on just one person every time we make beaver tails. Foodsafe is available online. Or we wait until the fall to do it in person. Maddy to send Pat Carol Currie’s. contact information. She organizes the courses for the college. Special Olympics does Food-safe program as a group, perhaps we can partner with them.
- The next road clean-up will be July 22nd at 8am. 7.15 for breakfast at Tim’s. Maddy will check out the insurance needed.
- Juris will investigate us doing more tree planting in the fall at Fort Shepherd.
- Waterton International Peace Park Assembly is from September 21 to 24. Anyone interested in attending?
- Maddy was elected to be PE for the year (to be President for the year 2024/25). Gord will take over as Secretary.
- Maddy will investigate if there is space for us to make beaver Tails at one of the Music in the Park Markets.
- Pat is participating in the Meek Sheep run/walk in Rossland on Saturday.
- Maddy is taking part in a multi-district membership event on Zoom on Saturday.
- Pat read RI President Gordon McInally’s message to Create Hope in the World. His theme is focused on mental health.
- Maddy and Juris talked about the International conference in Melbourne. Highlights; speakers on polio, inclusion, and mental health. Entertainment was top-class; The Tenors, Gabby Moreno, A Beegees tribute band, The Greatest Show. Juris felt the money spent to go could have been better spent on Rotary projects.
- Pat asked what we want to do this year, as a club, especially to attract new members. Come up with ideas next week. Have a social outside. Invite past members.
- Social on Saturday, August 12th at 4pm. Invite friends and past members and someone new to Rotary.
- 21st July Zoom meeting.
- 22nd July road clean up 7.15am Tim’s for breakfast. 8am start.
- Happy and sad bucks (not) collected. The meeting adjourned at 8.15am
