Thought of the day

Minutes 10 July 2026

I have a new philosophy; I will only dread one day at a time.

Charles M Schultz

My definition of an intellectual is someone who can listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of the Lone Ranger.

Billy Connolly

The meeting was held on Teams at 7.15 am with 5 members present.

  • Program Membership. Goal Setting.
  • We need to increase our membership by at least 2 to allow for attrition. We need to address low attraction.
  • We need to focus less on goals than on behaviours.
  • TED Talk: Five evidence-based things to do to reach our goals
  • 1 Writing down goals gives a 40% better chance of keeping them. About 3 or 4 maximum, short- and long-term.
  • 2 Look at the goals every day, short-term and long-term, each week. (HubSpot is a good site)
  • 3 Monitor progress. How is my progress each day or week?
  • 4 Visualize the obstacles and make a plan: WOOP – Wish Outcome Obstacle Plan.
  • 5 Tie to an identity. The strongest motivation is when we identify with what we want.
  • The biggest mistake people make is to have too many goals. Less is better.
  • Discussion – will this work for us? What do we identify with as a club? Set an identity for the club, then find projects that fulfill it. How do we promote ourselves? Have a publicity plan for events, especially for the Food drive.
  • Rotary Membership Action Plan – we will watch next week.
  • Business
  • Juris will go to the bank to add Erika as Treasurer.
  • The Rotary year is up. Dues are due. $125 for the next 6 months.
  • The Changeover meeting in Rossland was a chance to meet other Rotarians and hear from their exchange student from Taiwan. Five of us attended.
  • July 22nd, Wednesday at noon, incoming DG Steve Roberge will be at Colander with Trail Rotary.
  • Happy and sad bucks (not collected)

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 am
