The meeting was in three parts: a survey, brainstorming, and decisions.
Survey:
Question 1: What is important to you in Rotary? From 4 choices – A, fellowship and fun, B, community impact, C, networking, D, personal growth.
Results – The most popular answer was A, followed closely by B and then C
Question 2: Do we like Microsoft Teams as a meeting platform? Most of us are okay with it. Those without Microsoft have some issues, especially on phones compared to laptops. Decided to carry on for the next 6 months.
Question 3: Is meeting at 7:15 on Fridays still good for everyone? After discussion, we decided to keep the time and day the same for now.
Question 4: What do we think of amalgamating with the Trail Club? We are willing to cooperate and help with projects and see where it leads. Share more of our club schedule with them and invite them to socials and meetings.
Question 5: Do we like our social events? Yes. We need a calendar of events so that we know in advance and can invite Trail and Rossland Rotarians. Encourage guests to check out our meetings. Add 5 minutes to promote our projects. Assign different members to plan socials.
Brainstorming session.
A) What areas of focus from Rotary International do we want to focus our projects on? Where do we want to put our energies?
We couldn’t decide on one area, so we decided to look at projects and see where they would best fit.
B) Projects: Beaver Valley Food Bank. We decided we want to continue supporting the food bank. We need to find a way to assess our impact.
Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) supports local projects. They are oversubscribed. We could find out which projects they were unable to fund and pick one to support.
All Candidates Forum for municipal elections in October: We are in favour of helping in the Beaver Valley.
Discussion on community gardens, raising seedlings to give away, and sharing other skills and resources.
Get involved with the FES and Trail and Beaver Valley YANs to see if there are projects we could do with them.
Summary:
What is important to us is Fellowship while making a difference.
Continue as we are meeting on Teams every Friday at 7:15, with the first Friday of the month in person.
