• Business
• Erika has been to the bank to sign on our bank account. Now Juris and Graham need to go in. Maddy paid our dues on her visa and needs to get reimbursed by the club.
• Discussion on the fire in Summerland. What can we do to help? Individual donations may be best. One Suggestion is the Summerland food bank. Erika has a Rotary friend in Kelowna; she will talk to them.
• Juris talked to Patrick Watson from the Trail Club. He is very enthusiastic about Rotary. The following items were discussed:
  • Meeting times – He would like to see 4 meetings a month – 2 lunch, 2 evening.
  • Trail Club has an online directory to find club members.
  • Membership of Chamber; they are not keen on becoming a member.
  • Events: At Ferraros, selling hot dogs and displaying a hockey game on the wall. As a fundraiser for Foodbank. Discussion that unhoused people should be welcome, but it should be comfortable for others.
  • Kate’s Kitchen cooking maybe once a year would be okay with the number of people they have.
  • Election all-candidate forum; In favour of us doing Fruitvale, they would do Trail.
  • Carol Festival – welcome any help
• Social: The weekend of August 21/22 or 28/29th, depending on clear skies. We will be stargazing at Champion Lakes. Meet at 9pm at the lake; bring a lawn chair, drinks, food, and binoculars or a telescope. Dress warmly. Erika will send out an email when the skies are forecast to be clear.
• Al Bacon from Nelson Rotary died.
• Farmers market in Trail; aim for the September 5th market. Maddy will see if we can get that date.
• Iran/US war; is there a good outcome for the US?
• Jason Arday, a Cambridge professor, resigned due to plagiarism. Discussion.
• Happy and sad bucks (not collected)
