Thought of the day

Minutes 21 August 2026

The superfluous, a very necessary thing.

Voltaire

Yield to temptation. It may not pass your way again.

Robert A. Heinlein

The meeting was held on Teams at 7.15 am with 5 members present and guest Sheila Hart.

Music; none

  • Program: Sheila Hart; the Polio Plus Society.
  • To become a member of the Polio Plus Society, just donate $100 a year. Rotary is trying to eradicate polio; it’s still Rotary’s #1 priority.
  • It costs $3 to vaccinate a child. The Gates Foundation matches donations 2:1. Vaccination is only one part of the program. Environmental monitoring is a major component.
  • Maddy is already a member.
  • Business
  • The bank paperwork is not done yet. Juris has to go in and sign. Erika received an invoice for the District dues. This is in US$. She can pay it by e-transfer.
  • Social: The smoke has cleared from last week. The social may happen tonight (21st) or tomorrow (22nd). Meet at 9pm at Champion Lakes; bring a lawn chair, warm drinks, finger food, and binoculars or a telescope. Dress warmly. Erika will send out an email if the skies are forecast to be clear.
  • There was a nice article in the paper about the Castlegar Rotary Club and their fundraising efforts to send a group to Honduras. We will ask them to come and speak with us when they return.
  • Farmers market in Trail; aim for the September 5th market. Maddy will see if we can get that date.
  • September 4th is an in-person meeting at Bridgeview at 8am.
  • Happy and sad bucks (not collected)

Meeting adjourned at 8:00 am
