Thought of the day
11 September 2026
Brought up to respect the conventions, love had to end in marriage. I’m afraid it did.

The meeting was held on Teams at 7.15 am with 6 members present.

- Business
- Our day at the market went as well as could be expected. A few good conversations. Joan is contacting them. Juris has one person to contact.
- Social: board games at Joan’s on September 19th. Start at 5.30. Bring finger food. Invite guests. Maddy will send an email reminder.
- September 4th was an in-person meeting at Bridgeview. Lynn Burch, our outgoing AG, was present.
- Food drive on September 26th at Liberty Foods. Maddy confirmed with them.
- Joan suggested that we have a YouTube video from John Morrow on AI every second Friday of the month.
- Suggested monthly meeting format: Week one in-person social, week two YouTube video, week three speakers, week four more detailed business meeting, week five an item from the Rotary magazine. This is a guideline; we can also be flexible.
- Program: AI -John Morrow
- AI is real and here to stay, so let’s understand it. Two books: “If someone builds it, everyone dies” by Eliezer Yudkowsky and Nate Soares. This is a very pessimistic view. “The singularity is nearer” by Ray Kurzwell gives a more optimistic view.
- We don’t know how AI makes choices. It doesn’t respect copyright. Can’t trust everything. Be wary.
- It can be used in research to summarize articles. Editing software has AI embedded.
- Don’t rely on it, and never trust it totally for legal or medical advice.
- Discussion followed. We all have reservations.
Next week, September 18th, we need a speaker.
Saturday, September 26th: food drive at Liberty
Saturday, October 3rd: District training in Rossland.
- Happy and sad bucks (not collected)
Meeting adjourned at 8:15 am
